Kansas is very happy to be out of the e-collar and have her normal life back. The vet was very pleased with how things were progressing, especially that Kansas' eye didn't seem as much smaller as her other eye as most recipients of this surgery seem to appear. As things continue to heal and the skin stretches, the size of the orbit of her eye should return to normal. For now, her eyelashes are growing in, and the hair they shaved around her eye socket is, too, though not quickly enough for me! It's funny, the area where the regular fur meets the shaved part gives her the expression as if she were raising an eyebrow. She looks part Husky when viewed from outside through the kitchen window. Or like she's seriously disappointed in somebody. ;)
She had a nice scab, which the vet was hoping would stay on until it fell off on its own. If we caught Kansas pawing at her eye, we would have had to put the cone back on her. She has left it alone, as far as I know, but the scab didn't survive her first night's return to normal sleep. She typically sleeps on that side of her face, and I'm sure it rubbed off in the night, rather than she knocked it off herself, somehow. Either way, what's one more scar that is probably going to be covered by fur? Plus, the vet said there are internal stitches holding things together that will be dissolving as things progress.
The vet also apologized profusely for the catheter incident and said it was under review.
