10 Years Old
Kansas is 10 years old today. She did great at her annual trip to the vet. Maybe because she'd been there not all that long ago for her dental issue. She did bark a lot at everyone, but not in a mean way, just talking. She got lots of treats and attention... and more treats once she figured out that they'd give her some every time she cooperated. Then she started soliciting them. We went over her bloodwork from the dental in September, discussed her skin tags... found out that it's time to remove the big one on her eyelid. It's doubled in size recently, and she's aggravating it and making it bleed, which irritates her eye, so she paws at it, and makes it bleed more... vicious cycle. Mostly, it's now big enough that it's actually touching her eye and in her way. She's squinting and uncomfortable, and we don't want her inadvertently damaging her eye while pawing at it. The tissue itself is soft enough not to cause damage, but it's just time. It means putting her under anesthesia again, and basically it's another $400+ procedure. I have been kicking myself for months that I didn't think to have it removed during the dental while she was already anesthetized but the truth is that it probably wasn't big enough to worry about back then, and also it still would have been an extra $300 at that time, and we didn't have it. At this point it's not an emergency, but a "sooner rather than later" thing. Weeks, instead of 6 months from now. Not a big deal. Just needs to be done. As soon as we figure out how to manage it financially. Everything is maxed thanks to Christmas and being off work for 3 weeks over Thanksgiving and Christmas. Unpaid, involuntary "vacation" FTW! yay!
Other than that, she's fine and healthy.
